YOUTH TEACHER TRAINING & MENTORSHIP PROGRAM
This is an ongoing project. It is our flagship program, and many other initiatives have grown out of this course. Each year, from October through May, Juliet and the Youth Mentor Assistant Trainers run a course that teaches young people to understand yoga, practice effective communication, and embrace the responsibilities of sharing our methodology with the public. While some participants join with the intention of becoming teachers, many attend simply to benefit from the studio meetings, where we study, learn, and integrate these practices into daily life so we can be thoughtful, supportive company in the world. R.E.S.T. + M.O.V.E. PROJECT
STEM - Anatomy, Nervous System Study & Kinesiology
These topics of study are part of the Teacher/Mentorship Training. For the youth that are interested in the science behind why we move, breath, rest, and communicate, this is an extended course.
We use aspects in this project to build our Young Mothers Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga, Body & Mind Class for youth in detention centers and to inform the somatic components of the Move Back Home project.
MOVE BACK HOME
Move Back Home is an interactive, somatic, performance art, and bio-psycho-social concept that culminates in a dance piece. This project aims to build community by exploring personal stories about home, moving, and returning. It helps people connect with themselves and others. The group includes youth and especially elders in the community. A key part of the process of developing this piece is a way for youth and elders to learn more about each other. The other key part of the performance allows viewers to watch both youth and elders move together in unique and different ways.
This project can be a single day long workshop or weekend workshop as a way to community build in your area, business, or organization. We provide the materials, lessons, and education. READ MORE HERE.
PRENATAL/POSTNATAL YOGA FOR YOUNG MOTHERS
This is a project that is being developed by one of our youth mentors, Nevaeh Greene. She is currently attending a course to train her to be a pre/post natal yoga instructor. With this she will proceed to adapt it to our methods. The intention is to have a pre/postnatal series available at the Parenting Teen Program at the local high schools. If you’d like to donate to this it would be greatly appreciated!!
